Wedding Customs

Many wedding traditions date back to the time when people believed in the existence of evil spirits, powerful entities who could bring death and disease and wreak havoc on crops. Since agriculture was the basis of most primitive economies, one didn't want to mess with the demons. Newly Weds and brides in particular were believed to be singles out by evil spirits for harm or mischief, and the bride and groom together were deemed to be especially ripe targets. Hence, it was considered unlucky for the groom to even see the bride on their wedding day.
